I think he is saying that it hangs when trying to put it into stand by.

You are pressing Fn-<F4> not just Fn? some times drivers will prevent
the system from going into stand by. I had this problem with a logitech
mouse driver once. Or it could be a program that is doing this. try
killing off anything that is running one at a time to see if that cures
the problem.
