[Thinkpad] OT: Cooked Desktop

My admittedly uneducated guess is that you shouldn't risk it unless there's
absolutely nothing of value on the hard drive that hasn't been backed up.
Being cooked inside that case wasn't good for anything inside it, even if
nothing appears to fail immediately. With the current low prices on PCs, you
could get a new computer with all new components for less than the price of
replacing a few of the prematurely weakened ones.
If you do try to resurrect the old one, I suggest getting a stronger power
supply of the same form factor. I've heard that it is not unusual for
desktops to be outfitted with underpowered ones. My old Dell started
undercooling when it was barely a year old - and naturally it required a
more-expensive power supply with a proprietary connector configuration.
