Possibly better.

I have an external USB CDRW that works fine (though speed-limited) off
the built-in USB1.1 ports on my X30 with no extra power.  When I tried
it on a PC-Card USB2 adapter (which claimed to be able to deliver 500ma
in a "high power" slot) it wouldn't work, even when I tried running
power cables from the drive to one of the built in USB ports (I also
tried leeching power off the PS2 port).  However, it works perfectly off
a $10 powered hub (Belkin).
