[Thinkpad] Video problem

Well, I was thinking (hoping, actually -- this machine is out of warranty) that my video problem could be due to a freshly upgraded LogMeIn.com client conflicting with VNC.  I noticed that even after a reboot, my VNC server icon was messed up on the tray.  So I closed it, and things were fine for a day or two.

Then I started typing this note and the problem reoccurred WHILE I WAS TYPING IT!

The other symptom was that the screen was going black for ~30 seconds, then coming back.  Some research suggested that this might be due to LogMeIn adding a "mirror driver", so I uninstalled that (I really don't need LogMeIn on this machine; I installed it only to test it, as this is my "victim" machine for all things new).

Now, of course, things are OK again.  But for how long ...
