I think it might be better to say 'stay away from non-thinkpad lenovo 
machines'.

I have several of the right-hand release laptops as well, and haven't
had problems with them.  Of course, you should ALWAYS open the
laptop up with both hands, keeping the stress on the display and
hinges even.

I've only seen a 'C' line Lenovo once, and while it seemed OK, it
didn't feel like a thinkpad.  Oh well...
