I've found the Dell consumer line laptops *tend* to be poorly built, while
the Dell business line *tend* to be better built. By poorly built, I'm
referring to how 'plasticy' the machine felt and how 'flexible' the
case/frame was when picked up. A lot of flex in a frame does not sit well
with me, because it says to me that the internal components (motherboard,
circuit boards, connectors, etc.) are flexing with the case and are likely
to develop intermittent connections.
On my list of poorly built Dells are: Inspiron 8000/8100/8200 Latitude C840
(from hands-on experience these two lines appeared to be built on the same
chassis)
Better built Dells:
D610
D620
D820
