[Thinkpad] HD Recommendation -- Hitachi TravelStar?

Hmmm. Didn't catch the 4200rpm detail... Still would have worked fine for
my backups purpose, but I think I'd shy away from using it as the primary
drive.

There are 250gb 5400rpm drives out there, Dell and Alienware just started
using them. But one presumes they're over the OP's budget. :)

That's the drive I've had in my X32 for a year and a half now. Great
performance and very quiet - much more so than the Hitachi originally in it.
I'd definitely recommend it to the OP and anyone else.

Yeah, that Samsung (HM120JC) can now be had for $74.16 shipped from eWiz
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=SM-HM120JC where I bought it at twice that
price back then. For some reason Newegg lists a 1-year warranty on the
Samsung drives, but I think they're wrong. I know mine has a 3-year
warranty, as I'm pretty sure all the Samsung Spinpoints do. Samsung is
3-years and Seagate is 5-years, which IMO gives them the edge in 2.5" HD
options.

As for the 200GB 2.5" drives, are they available yet in 5400rpm? I've only
seen the 4200rpm.
