That is the case with an X32 and its built-in firewire.
You can't boot off a firewire device.  That's why it's good
to get a bisexual (USB2 and Firewire) external drive.
In normal operation Firewire is the better choice, because
Firewire has its own processor and puts little strain on the
Thinkpad's CPU.  But when ya' gotta' boot ...
