[Thinkpad] Best way to test

I'd just say memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) and cpuburn (
http://pages.sbcglobal.net/redelm/).

memtest86+ is an enhanced version of memtest86 with a few extra options, and
cpuburn is designed to make your processor get has hot as possible.

The most effective way to actually test your processor under linux:

wget http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.18.tar.bz2
tar xjf linux-2.6.18.tar.bz2
cd linux-2.6.18
while true
do make allyesconfig
make bzImage modules
make distclean
done
cd ..
rm -r linux-2.6.18 linux-2.6.18.tar.bz2

Ctrl-C after a few hours and check your cpu temperature, and see if the
computer hasn't crashed yet. This could also test your ram somewhat
effectively.
