All the more reason to go with a third-party firmware which can run on
multiple hardware platforms. When Linksys dropped the available RAM and
ROM in later models of the WRT54G, and introduced the WRT54GL with the
same memory as the old G but at a higher price point, I switched to the
Buffalo WHR-54GS, saved myself some cash, and can still use the same
DD-WRT firmware with which I have become familiar. Being independent
and userbase-supported, it's far less subject to the vagaries of
corporate greed and marketing strategies.
