[Thinkpad] Maintenance sw and SLOW loading of data files in various apps

Does the file load faster from a different disk partition or a different
physical drive? If it's the same across both drives then whatever is
happening seems to be software/configuration related. If one drive is
faster then you may want to perform an in-depth error check of the slow
drive. Hard drives that are failing often get really slow because they
have to keep re-reading things. Windows has some type of error checker
that works OK, but getting Drive Fitness Test or similar is probably a
better choice.

As for file size and speed... Did you mean the time to actually launch
AutoCAD and then open a file is 2.5 min, or just the time to open a 19MB
file in already-running AutoCAD? I don't have that software to test
with here, but either of those options seems WAY too long. I would
expect a 19MB file to open in a couple of seconds in most programs
unless AC is extremely slow opening files. The program itself should
launch a lot quicker than that too.

Have you done scans for adware/spyware with something like Spybot and
AdAware? Have you tried logging into the machine with a different user
(preferably a brand new local account) to test the speed? Have you
tried booting into safe mode and testing the speed there? All of these
things will help fill in pieces of the puzzle.
