[I've used ThinkPads forever... just not this driver update tool, so
forgive my ignorance and please guide me.]
OK, so I now have an A31p with WinXP that has the 'ThinkPad Software
Installer' on it. This tool is new to me... I've never used an
automated driver update program on our A21p running Win2K. This system
was recently recovered to original image and then I updated all MS
drivers. Now I'd like to update all IBM drivers to the latest versions.
So, when I run the tool I get a list of all IBM drivers. I'm unsure
what it is showing me. Some items in the list are bold, some are
checked, some are bold and checked. Some/all entries in the list show
driver versions, some show "(installed)" after the version, some don't.
After going 'Next' from that screen I get to the 'Confirm driver and
software installation packages to install' screen. This list shows the
drivers with 'Version' column populated but nothing in 'Current
Version'. When viewing this list I have absolutely no idea what will
happen if I click the 'Install' button.
Can anyone help decipher what these lists are showing me and what will
actually happen if I let it install? What I'd like to happen is to see
a list of all installed drivers, their current version, and the most
recent available version. This I could understand. I don't want to
screw anything up by letting it install randomly, and I certainly don't
want to have it re-install every driver regardless of whether it has a
newer version or not.
Thanks,
Rob
