Dear Friends,
Salaam Alaikum
For the past several years, I have been working a swing shift, going to bed
after Fajr and rising with Zuhr. Winter arrived last week with temperatures
dropping from the high sixties to the mid-twenties. About to retreat for a few
hours sleep, my dreams were postponed by the chirp of chickadees, the tssp tssp
of cardinals, the Ya Haqq of cawing crows.
I slipped from between the sheets and stepped onto the deck to spread
sunflower seed for the birds just beginning their day. Two squirrels watched from a
nearby tree waiting for their breakfast as I spread seed beneath a bench.
Ivy and unraked leaves lay covered as the snow gathered in the branches of
nearby trees. Barefooted and hatless, I stood in the falling snow and turned my
face toward the sky. Then I turned and turned, whirling like the falling
flakes of snow.
And everywhere I turned, there was God. My heart still pounds with the joy
of His bountiless love.
Allahu Akbar!
Tahira
