it may be worth mentioning that the theme of generalized primes
is part of the motivation for riffs & rotes (see entry in oeis).
one is given an arbitrary collection of primitive elements that
are called "primes" plus the "purely combinatorial" patterns of
composition that one sees in either the riff or rote structures.
the question arises : how much of the order of the integers can
be explained on "purely combinatorial" grounds, that is, by way
of order axioms that have a natural combinatorial justification?
