Arisbe List, Inquiry List,

Amending some details, and continuing.

| Inquiry is an annoying, bewildering, confounding,
| confusing, disconcerting, distressing, disturbing,
| irritating, perturbing, uncertain, unnerving process.
| Genuine inquiry always begins that way. If you think
| anybody would do it for fun, then you have confused it
| with something else, a form of pretend inquiry that can
| but serve as an exercise, a rehearsal, a remembrance, an
| attenuated, dim, watered-down proxy, and weak substitute
| for the real thing. One of the first questions that hit
| me when I started to think about inquiry in a deliberate
| way was "Can inquiry be social?". The answer so far as
| I know it is this: "Maybe, it depends on your society,
| but one thing is for sure, it's rarely ever polite".
| This is due to the nature of reality, which ain't,
| and not the fault of what any person would wish.
| Reality? Define that as what's here to stay.
| Now, deal, get used to it. Which brings us
| full cycle back to the telos of inquiry.

I will assume the everyone has at least some inkling of the distincture
between "parlour inquiry" or "facon de parler inquiry" and real inquiry,
which brings us to the part about "it depends on your society" and thus
to ask: What forms of society and what social architextures facilitate
the conduct of inquiry in particular settings or the life of inquiry in
a broader perspective? Not so dim remembrances of a host of literature
teachers are reminding me that this is too big a subject, so let's turn
our more focal attentions back to the question of NOI's and their TOI's.

The question becomes: What kinds of NOI's with what kinds of TOI's can
serve to facilitate inquiry, and, by way of comparison, what structures
work to block, inhibit, and otherwise waylay the "way of inquiry" (WOI)?

Preliminary experiences and observations of a casual, informal, or, well,
I would not exactly call them "opportunistic", much less "serendipitous",
so let's call them "unplanned" nature, have led me to the suspicion that
the NOI/TOI known as a "planted claw" or "plac" is a result of maximally
"unintelligent design" (UD), and I don't mean that in the good way, when
it comes to the telos to engineer architextures for a society of inquiry.

` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o | o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `\|/` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o---*---o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `/|\` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o | o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` | ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` O ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

That being the inkling, it brings me to the phase of analyzing the hunch,
of seeing whether it must of necessity or overwhelming probability be so,
or whether it is to a greater degree of probability just some accidental
abberrancy of my idiosyncratic experiences and own peculiar observations.

We Will Wot ...
