IBA. Note 1

o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o~~~~~~~~~o

Arisbe List, Inquiry List,

Like a bead on a wire this note invites consideration of the circumstance
that certain "networks of interaction" (NOI's), by dint of their underlying
"topology of interaction" (TOI), almost inevitably come to act as a class of
"inquiry blockers" (IB's) that I will call "inquiry blockage amplifiers" (IBA).
People who are inclined to onomatopoetics may pronounce this "eye-bah", as in
IBA Humbug. I was initially going to nomenclate this class of inquiry blocks
as "inquiry resistance reinforcers" (IRR's), but the acronym makes it too hard
to distinguish the R that is inhibitory from the R that is augmentory in action.

In particular, we shall examine the effects of the particular NOI/TOI
that graph theorists nomenclate as a "planted claw", but of course PC,
as a hash code, is bound to crash, so let's call is a "plac", for short.

Here's a picture of a typical plac:

` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o | o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `\|/` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o---*---o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `/|\` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` o | o ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` | ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` O ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `
` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

The asterisk marks the "center", "reflector", or "server" node,
the small o's mark the "leaf" or the "peer" nodes, and the big O
marks the "root", "owner", "non-peer", or "umpire" node, as accords
with the customary connotations in the application at hand. In many
of the situations that we'll discuss here it is taken for granted that
there is also a "weak link" between each pair among the non-server nodes.
