AS: Does this passage from 1897 not hark back to the Method of Tenacity of 1879?
Arnold, Bill, Peirce List,
The wealth of Peirce's allusions leads off in many diverting directions,
and I don't imagine I'll be able to resist trekking down at least a few,
but what he's really getting at here is a way that a 2-versity of express
logical constants or invariants can arise in a context where everything is
contingent, implicit, and relative, a state of information which, by virtue
of being contingent relative to itself alone, confuses itself with absolute
truth, and consequently, however unwittingly, takes itself for granted. So
it's not so much tenacity as opacity to any need to reflect on alternatives.
But it takes some reflection on sources to render this relatively luminous.
No Fooling,
Jon Awbrey
