BOTROI. Note 6

Let me return to the protean paradigm case of the ROC, to wit,
what is more properly called the 'inverse' projection of verbs
and nouns on the world, in its shape-shifting paradigm shifting
shapes from predicates and subjects to processes and products to
waves and particles. In my early efforts to abstract the pattern
of complementarity I labeled these Categories as Modes and Nodes,
and when I sought a Category to mediate the tension, or at least
to split the difference between them, I found nothing better in
my native tongue than what was provided by the abide of Bodes.

What was the lesson that I learned up to this point?
The best that I can make up after the fact, it went
a bit like this. We are stuck with the contingent
factitious concepts that evolution and education
will supply, until we can replace or supplement
them with concepts that are provably, testably
more fit for the task that is being tackled.

This is an instrumental view of concepts
that has always seemed the most natural
to me, and yet I have discovered it to
be a thought that is tantamount to an
alien idea to many people. Although
I've never been able to guess why,
it is quite as if they think the
ROC is that monolith from 2001.

Eppur si muove ...
