Reification of Categories (cont.)
I remember the days of my first fledgling studies in intellectual history,
begun quite informally in the trials of recapping in my own ontogeny the
phylogeny of mathematics, most crucially the radical developments that
transpired during the symbolist movement of the 1800's, and one of
its features that impressed me the most was the metamorphosis that
occurred in the ROC at this time. The old lines between subject
and predicate began to blur, to become more relative and less
absolute, that is to say it better, to become more a matter
of the relations that exist between equal citizens of the
logical domain, rather than a matter of logical castes.
The scene was already in flux when C.S. Peirce arrived on it,
but I think that it's fair to say that he took up the charge,
amplified it significantly, and gave it a level of conscious
reverberation that it never would have gained in his absence.
I know that many whomevers it may concern in the wider world
have yet to get the news as to what all happened at this time,
the biggest Who in Whoville notwithstanding the ambient static,
but can we really say that all those who say they got the news
really got it?
On jugera ...
